Walked On

BOOK CLUB

I had ankle surgery in November, 2017 and was in a non-weight bearing boot for 6 weeks. Stuck at home and not training any clients, I needed to channel my energy into some type of project, so I started writing a narrative about my experiences as a two-sport, Division I, non-scholarship athlete. I was a walk-on football player at the University of Iowa and a walk-on baseball player at the University of Nebraska. I was also an undrafted free agent during my brief minor league baseball career, which presented another set of challenging athletic circumstances. There were plenty of obstacles to overcome throughout this journey, and my hope is that anyone who reads this book stays motivated to reach their goals through adversity and failure.

To present this self-published book as professionally as possible, I hired an All-Star team. My sister, Maggie Kent, has been the official designer and organized all 23 full book revisions. My aunt, Pam Marshak, was an in-family editor and helped make this story readable. Jason Wright, a Nike graphic designer working out of Portland, created the cover art. LeAnna Weller Smith, a New York-based designer, finalized the book’s production. I could not have completed this project without their help.

A portion of sales will be donated to the Game Changers scholarship fund. Game Changers is a youth athletic training program offered by On Your Mark Coaching and Training, with an emphasis on middle school and high school athletes.
